There is a particular moment at a dinner party where the host has to stand up, find a knife, work out how many people are left, and cut a cake in front of an audience. Nobody enjoys it. The cake is never cut evenly and someone always says so.
Dessert boxes exist to skip that entirely. One container, four spoons, done.
What a dessert box actually is
Ours are 1kg, built in layers inside a reusable container, and designed to comfortably serve four. You bring the box to the table and everyone helps themselves. No portioning, no plating, no washing up beyond the spoons.
The tiramisu
Our Tiramisu Dessert Box is the classic done at scale — the same dessert people order by the slice in the patisserie, in a format built for a table. It is the safest choice for a mixed group, and it holds beautifully in the fridge, which matters if dinner runs long.
We wrote about the dessert itself in our piece on tiramisu.
The banoffee
The Banoffee Dessert Box is the more theatrical one, built in four distinct layers: a base of rich buttery cookie crumble, a thick layer of dulce de leche mousse, fresh ripe bananas, and a light white chocolate mousse over the top to balance everything underneath.
It is handmade to order by Dhi in the central city, which is why it needs notice rather than being something you grab on the way.
The smaller version of the same idea
If four is too many, the same flavours turn up as individual desserts. The Banoffee Cookie Tart and the Banoffee mini cake both cover the banana-and-toffee ground, and our full mini dessert range is built on the same principle — everyone gets their own, nobody negotiates.
When you need to feed more than four
Two boxes work fine. Beyond that, dessert catering boxes are the right format, and for a proper event our miniatures for events and petit fours scale without anyone having to serve anything. Petit fours need seven days' notice, so plan those in.
Or bring a cake instead
Nothing wrong with the traditional route. Mini cakes are one serving each and come as trays of six or twelve, which looks like a good deal more effort than it took, and our celebration cakes cover anything larger — a 15cm cuts 12 to 15 slices. There is a fuller size guide in our piece on anniversary cakes.
How to order
Both boxes are made to order, so order online and choose a collection date at least two days out. Collect from our patisserie inside The Welder, open 10am to 6pm Tuesday to Friday and 10am to 3pm on Saturday. The full range is on our menu.
