Our desserts are hand-crafted, and made to order, so you select the date/time of pickup in the checkout process. Pickup is from our Patisserie located inside the Welder, Central City Christchurch, no earlier than the date/time selected.

What happens next

1. Place your Order

You choose a pickup date and time at checkout. deally the day before your event, so it is one less thing on the day.

2. We make your cake

We bake and finish your cake by hand ready for your pickup date/time.

3. Collect from us

Collect from our patisserie at The Welder, Tuesday to Saturday. We don't deliver.

4. Serve

Your cake can be stored up to 3 days in the box we give you with no change in taste or texture. Take it out of the fridge at least an hour before serving.

Thunder Chocolate Cake

Four layers of chocolate sponge built around brigadeiro, the Brazilian milk chocolate caramel Dhi grew up on in Rio, cooked down slowly until it's dense and fudgy. Serve it to someone who has never had brigadeiro and watch them try to place the flavour.

While our team takes all necessary steps to minimise the risk of cross-contamination, traces may occur due to our kitchen being small and without ‘exclusive’ production areas for all of our different recipes.

How many people will each size feed?

When choosing the size of cake, it's hard to say exactly how many people it will feed, but as a general guideline:

15cm - provides 12-15 servings
20cm - provides 20-25 servings
25cm - provides 30-35 servings

Can you write something on the cake?

Yes, if you leave a note we can write something short e.g. "Happy Birthday Sam"

No Added Dairy/Gluten?

Due to recent NZ food labelling updates, I cannot claim any of my items are 'gluten-free' or 'dairy-free', only that I have not added any gluten or dairy containing ingredients.

While some of our products are made without allergen-containing ingredients, they are produced in a shared kitchen where allergens are present.

Therefore, we cannot guarantee they are safe for individuals with severe allergies.

Can I change something about the cake? e.g. decorations or ingredients

Get in touch with me if you have concerns about a specific item in a cake and we can see if we can accomodate.

We don't make custom cakes so cannot make new recipes for customers, only potentially omit ingredients or make minor changes.

Can you make me a custom cake?

Apologies but I don't make custom cakes, so cannot create something for you that's not listed on the menu.

Is it ok if we need to store it?

Yes, all of our cakes and desserts can be safely stored in the packaging we give you for 1-3 days without any change in taste or texture.

If you anticipate storing for more than this, it's best to freeze in an airtight container, however note that some of our decorations may crack from being frozen due to the expansion effect of moisture freezing.

Please let them come to room temperature before eating for the best experience.

The rich chocolate cake is beautifully balanced in terms of sweetness. The suggested slices may look small-ish on a plate, but they are dense and full of flavour. It is not our first Dhi Ferrari cake, but having been conditioned by other lesser cakes, we tend to cut too large (if there is such a thing) an initial slice every time.

The delicious, decorative chocolate pieces on the side surrounding the cake showcases Dhi's amazing skills. In the right light, shining through the extremely thin, fragile tips, it looks to me like lit candles in the wind.

This is more than a delicious cake; it is an ephemeral work of art.

I purchased this cake for my mum’s 80th Birthday Party and it was an absolute hit. If you are looking for a chocolate cake that is not too rich, this is for you. Again, my experience with Dhi’s cakes did not disappoint.

Good cake overall and I liked the chocolate whipping cream in between and the top ganache. The sponge cake however felt a bit dry.
